In the October half term Melvyn Roffe will be visiting Hong Kong to speak at the Boarding Schools Association Conference. He will also use this opportunity to host a reception at the Hong Kong Cricket Club for parents of current students , prospective students, their parents and of course past pupils. In the week before this, Melvyn will be hosting a reunion for past pupils in Australia:

As you can see from the attached invitation we have now finalised the booking for the Melbourne reunion dinner on 22nd October.  It would be so good to see you all there if you can make it. Please let me have conformation of your attendance as we have to confirm numbers etc.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on the addresses shown on the invitation. Also I’m sure Mike Herring (Association Chairman) mikedot@btopenworld.com would be only to pleased to also answer any queries you may have.

See you all there.

Melbourne Invitation

Opening of New 6th Form House

The new 6th Form house is expected to be ready for opening in the Summer of 2008.  The Principal has suggested to the WCA Committee that the event would be an opportunity to encourage more recent leavers back to the school, along with all other past students who would like to attend.   More details to follow.

CGS Reunion

In 1959 some 36 or so youngsters turned up in coaches at Wymondham College to begin what was known then as the Fringe Grammar. The plan was to start a new grammar school at Wymondham and then move it on to new premises at some unspecified date.

We were split into two classes and for the whole of my time there we were always the senior classes. I was with Mr Banham who, as well as being the form master, also taught French.

Eventually we became the County Grammar School, subsequently integrated with Wymondham College, and at the end of my 5th year some went off to work in the world and other stayed on for 6th form and, I assume, university.

In September 2009 it will be 50 years since that momentous occasion and I wonder if I might put out an appeal for any CGS Old Boys and Girls to get in touch with a view to a reunion sometime in 2009.

If there are any out there who are in touch with the original two classes could they contact me, preferably through email, and see it we are not able to put something together.

Yours in hope
